ND Commit Named "Mr. Football" in California!

Washington Union High School's Deontay Greenberry was named "Mr. Football" for the state of California last night!  He's just the fourth player from District IV in California to receive this honor in its 121 year history and the first in the past 50 years!  A few ND fans might remember one of the previous players in District IV to receive the honor;  Daryle Lamonica, who received this honor in 1958.  Lamonica went on to star as a QB for the Irish and the Oakland Raiders.

Deontay set a California HS football record this season with 33 touchdown catches!

Here's some of the previous winners of this award:  Toby Gerhart (Stanford & Minnesota Vikings), Desean Jackson (Cal & Philadelphia Eagles), Derek Landri (Notre Dame & Philadelphia Eagles), Amani Toomer (Michigan & New York Giants),  John Elway (Stanford & Denver Broncos).

There have also been 4 Heisman Trophy Winners to be named Mr. Football in California:  Marcus Allen (USC), Charles White (USC), Mike Garrett (USC) and Glenn Davis (Army).

Quite an honor for this University of Notre Dame commit!  It's going to be great to see Deontay sporting that GOLD HELMET next fall!
